Membership Eligibility Requirements

  1. RMA Memberships are concentrated in the areas designated in the map on the right, however, any business in the United States is eligible for membership (click map to enlarge).
  2. The definition of a retail member is a company which has a physical or web-based retail presence, a retail business license, primarily sells tangible products to the consumer and charges a retail sales tax on those products sold. (apparel, grocery, florist)
  3. The definiton of an associate member is a company which primarily provides a professional service to the consumer. Therefore, this company has a business license other than retail and is not required to charge a retail sales tax. (financial, real estate, advertising)

How to become a member of the Retail Merchants Association

  1. Complete the online membership retail application or associate application, which will be forwarded to the Retail Merchants Association Membership Department. Julie's cell phone number is 804-673-5249 and would be pleased to speak with anyone regarding membership.
  2. Once the application is received, you will be contacted by phone with an explanation of all the services provided to our members.
  3. The membership application must be approved by the Retail Merchants Association board of directors.
  4. A letter will be sent to you acknowledging the status of your application.
  5. Upon approval, you will be eligible for all member services. Retail and Associate member services differ.
  6. Members joining after January 31 will be charged a prorated dues amount for the first year.
  7. Annual Dues are based on your company’s number of full time employees (two part time = one full time) in the areas served by the Retail Merchants Association. Click here for a map of these areas >>
