Crime Stoppers/Squirrels Fund Raiser a Success!
We sold 171 tickets to almost totally RMA Members – thank you for your support! The income we raised will go into the coffers for Crime Stoppers rewards. The Squirrels game attendance was 8615. We were very busy from 3:30 (gates open) to about 5:30 after the game started. A great deal of Crime Stoppers information was handed out to the baseball fans. Mariah Douglas, Crime-Stoppers Poster Contest Winner, threw out the first pitch after she was introduced from the field. Dragon Boat Festival
Saturday, July 31
Rocketts Landing (5000 Old Osborne Turnpike), Free for spectators, 8am-4:30pm
The ancient Chinese sport of dragon boating has been gaining popularity in North America over the past twenty years and has become the world’s fastest growing water sport. Dragon boats are 40-foot human-powered canoes decorated with ornate Chinese dragon heads. Led by the rhythmic beat of a drum, teams consisting of 20 synchronized paddlers, one drummer, and one steersperson race the canoes 500m down the river. All teams are guaranteed at least three races. The WhatIfCreditUnions.com Richmond International Dragon Boat Festival will be the sixth event of the Major League Dragon Boat Series. Not only is the event expected to draw in experienced participants from across the continent and overseas, but it should also attract first-time racers from right here in Richmond. The Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation is the official charity of the Richmond International Dragon Boat Festival. For more information or to register a team, visit http://wwws.gwndragonboat.com/Default.asp?l=1&id=161 or call 804-285-9495.
